ENG

Ordinary Matters brings forth the everyday experiential world that simmers beneath the surface of the skin, and the poetry hidden within mundane things. Inspired by still‑life paintings (in Finland once called hiljaiselo / quiet life), the performance places everyday things and materials as co-performers alongside the human body. It reflects on the silent relations between the human and the material world – how everyday items act as quiet companions in our lives.

The work approaches the everyday experiential world as a sensory and imaginative opening, observing the complex and often invisible relationships we have with the materials of our immediate surroundings. With a collection of things brought from home, it explores the resonances between materials and the human body: how things attract, repel, leave traces, sensations, and memories. The performance asks how we are formed in continuous interactions with the things and materials around us.

The piece is part of a series of works around the same material, in which the work transforms and inhabits different contexts, spaces and situations through different performance versions.
